The Hunter 30736: Compact and Affordable

The Hunter 30736 Quietflo has a modern tower design and claims to use a true HEPA filtration.  A ‘True’ HEPA filter has to be tested to at least 99.97% efficiency in capturing 0.3 micron and larger particles according to U.S. Military Standards. By looking at the manual for the Hunter 30736 you can see that it claims the purifier is only capable of trapping particles down to .7 microns which confuses me a bit (read my post “True HEPA Air filter Vs All The Rest).  It also comes with an activated carbon pre-filter which reduces smoke and common household odors. This common two-stage air filtering process is works well in capturing pollen, dust, pet dander and other common allergens.

It has a small footprint due to its tower design and is ideal for almost any room in your house, particularly where space is an issue. The Hunter 30736 air purifier is designed for medium sized rooms (up to 197 square feet or about 14‘ x 14‘). As with all Hunter Air Purifiers this model utilizes Hunter Air’s trademarked Whisper-Quiet fan. The QuietFlo™ air filter system starts by drawing in air and passing it through an activated carbon pre-filter which absorbs odors and gases and captures larger particles like dust and pet hair. Next the HEPA -type filter removes 99.97% of particles .7 microns and larger. Unfortunately, this can exclude some allergens, but should work well for dust, hair and some larger allergens that may be in your home. The last stage exhausts clean, purified air back into the room using the same effective QuietFlo™ fan from the top of the tower to avoid disturbing tiny particles that may be settled on the ground around the unit which is always a smart design feature. The Hunter 30736 also has an optional ionizer for enhanced air cleaning. It’s certified by AHAM (Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers) with Clean Air Delivery Ratings (CADR) of 127 for Dust, 127 for Smoke, and 127 for Pollen which are pretty good considering the recommended maximum room size (197 sq. feet).

Additional Features of the Hunter 30736 Quietflo Tower

The other features of Hunter 30736 Quietflo purifier include digital controls with an LCD screen and digital filter life indicators. This is surprisingly rare among air purifiers. I won’t go so far as to say it is exclusive to Hunter, but I don’t see if often. If the idea of a digital display and controls appeals to you than some of the model’s from Hunter may be a good place to look. I also love that the keypad is lockable. It’s not a super significant feature, but if you have kids around it could make all the difference. Additionally, the display provides a backlight which can be nice and soothing at night, especially for a child’s room. The nice thing is that the light can also be turned off if you find it bothersome.

The Hunter 30736 has indicators for both the main filter and the prefilter which track remaining filter life. The prefilter should last around three months which is fairly typical among activated carbon prefilters on purifiers in this price range and the main HEPA filter is good for about 8000 hours which is about a year. When it is time to replace them, it will be obvious on the display. The price of replacements is also pretty reasonable relative to competing brands.

It’s constructed from a durable ABS plastic shell, with a long-lasting, energy efficient motor. It has three selectable cleaning power speeds and a turbo option which is always nice for a quick refresh of the air in a room. Hunter Air backs the 30736 with a five year limited warranty. I have seen some folks complain of the noise the Hunter 30736 makes although it is always hard to tell if they are experienced with HEPA air purifiers or not. What is loud to them may not be loud to you, and some noise (especially at higher settings) should always be expected with this type of air filtration. While this purifier is fairly affordable and offers reasonably priced maintenance, for severe allergy sufferer’s, I would not recommend it. This unit would might however be right for those who want to keep dust levels at a minimum and like the idea of having a lockable digital LCD display with a nite light feature. This is a great affordable choice for a kid’s room.
